Illinois Institute of Technology Acceptance Rate

The acceptance rate is the first thing to look at if you want to get in. This indicates how competitive the school is and how serious they are about their criteria.

The acceptance rate at the Illinois Institute of Technology is 52.7%. Of every 100 applicants, 53 are admitted.

This indicates that the school is selective in nature. The school wants you to satisfy their GPA and SAT/ACT criteria, although they are more accommodating than other colleges.

You have a good probability of getting accepted if you meet their requirements. However, if you don’t, you may be one of the unlucky few who receive a rejection letter.

Illinois Institute of Technology Requirements for Admission

What are the Illinois Institute of Technology’s admission requirements? While there are a lot of pieces that go into a college application, you should focus on only a few critical things:

GPA requirements

Testing requirements, including SAT and ACT requirements

Application requirements

A. Illinois Institute of Technology GPA Requirements

Many schools specify a minimum GPA requirement, but this is often just the bare minimum to submit an application without immediately getting rejected.

The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. For this, we look at the school’s average GPA for its current students.

• Average GPA: 3.98

The average GPA at Illinois Institute of Technology is 3.98.

(Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA.

With a GPA of 3.98, Illinois Institute of Technology requires you to be at the top of your class. You’ll need nearly straight A’s in all your classes to compete with other applicants.

Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes – AP or IB courses – to show that college-level academics is a breeze.

If you’re a junior or senior, changing your GPA in time for college applications is difficult. You’ll need a better SAT or ACT score to compensate if your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.98.

This will enable you to compete effectively against applicants with better GPAs.

B. Illinois Institute of Technology SAT Requirements

Each school has its own set of standardized testing standards. The SAT or ACT is required by most schools, and many also need SAT subject tests.

To apply to the Illinois Institute of Technology, you must take either the SAT or the ACT. More importantly, you must do well in order to submit a strong application.

Many colleges claim that they do not have a SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that they do. This is based on the average score for the school.

• Average SAT

The average SAT score composite at the Illinois Institute of Technology is 1340 on the 1600 SAT scale.

This score makes the Illinois Institute of Technology Moderately Competitive for SAT test scores.

IIT SAT Score Analysis (New 1600 SAT)

The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1230, and the 75th percentile New SAT score is 1450. In other words, 1230 on the New SAT places you below average, while 1450 will move you up to above average.

Here’s the breakdown of new SAT scores by section:

Section Average 25th Percentile 75th Percentile
Math 710 650 760
Reading + Writing 630 580 690
Composite 1340 1230 1450

C. IIT ACT Requirements

Just like for the SAT, the Illinois Institute of Technology likely doesn’t have a hard ACT cutoff, but if you score too low, your application will get tossed in the trash.

Average ACT

The average ACT score at the Illinois Institute of Technology is 28. This score makes the Illinois Institute of Technology Moderately Competitive for ACT scores.

The 25th percentile ACT score is 25, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 30.

Despite the fact that the Illinois Institute of Technology clearly states that there is no minimum ACT score requirement, if you apply with a score of 25 or lower, you will have a difficult time getting in unless you have something else noteworthy in your application.

D. SAT/ACT Writing Section Requirements

Both the SAT and ACT have an optional essay section.

The SAT Essay/ACT writing section is recommended by the Illinois Institute of Technology. They’ll think your application is stronger if you do well.

E. SAT Subject Test Requirements

Schools vary in their SAT subject test requirements. Typically, selective schools tend to require them, while most schools in the country do not.

We couldn’t locate any evidence that Illinois Institute of Technology required SAT subject examinations, therefore it probably doesn’t.

Therefore, you should double-check at least 6 months before applying to ensure that you have adequate time to take the test.
