Potential applicants should meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for an interview.

The minimal total MCAT score is 495 on the most recent MCAT test reported. This score is the minimum score for consideration for an interview and applies to applicants to the Regular MD, MD/PhD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, and Rural programs.

The total MCAT Score of 495 does not apply to applicants to Early Decision or EMSAP programs. These programs each have different MCAT criteria.

➛ Scores from the September 2018 MCAT dates are the latest that will be considered.

➛ A 2016 MCAT score is the earliest score considered for the 2019 entering class.

Note: The new MCAT is a different examination from the previous MCAT. The new examination has a different structure, new content and is scored differently.

While there are percentile ranks for scores on each of the tests, similar percentile ranks of scores on the old and new tests do not represent the same performance on the two different tests.

More Information on MCAT Score

The percentile rank of a score for the new test represents how that score on the new exam is related to other scores on the new test and the percentile rank of a score on the old tests represent the relationship of that score to other scores on the old test.

When evaluating applicants our Committee will use the percentile rank of an individual score on the new MCAT to compare it to others who took the new exam.

Since our Committee has a great deal of experience with the old MCAT, scores will be used to evaluate individual applicant’s similar to the way they were used in the past.

See the MCAT website for more information.

We will use the most recent MCAT total score for either exam for consideration of the interview. The Committee will consider the applicants’ scores from all MCAT tests when evaluating applicants for admission.

Grade Point Average

For Alabama residents, there are no minimum grade point averages for consideration for admission. Out of state applicants must have a 3.4 or higher undergraduate, graduate, or post-baccalaureate grade point average to receive a secondary application invitation.

All applicants must demonstrate a solid knowledge of relevant sciences and the ability to manage a rigorous academic curriculum.

You must also have received a “C” or better in all required courses.  The out-of-state applicant GPA minimum requirement does not apply to MD-PhD applicants.

Credit Hours

Applicants should report at least 90 hours of undergraduate course credit from an accredited U.S. college or university on the AMCAS application.

All requirements to complete current degree programs must be completed by July 1st prior to matriculation.

All college majors are considered equally; however, you should consider how your major prepares you for the rigorous science coursework of medical school and how your major will be useful if not accepted to medical school.

Citizenship

Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are considered for admission.
